My painting style is an eclectic, independent combination of Impressionism, Abstract Expressionism, and Dadaism. Creating entirely free from commercial pressure or rigid artistic norms has granted me a vital luxury: the absolute freedom to experiment. Generally speaking, I am a landscape painter, but with a twist. I translate the physical environments I have studied as a scientist into the metaphorical landscapes I conceive as a creator. Over time, traditional canvas gave way to mixed media -- a form I find far more expansive. By layering textures of paint, ink, textiles, plant matter, and raw elements like ash, sawdust, and found objects, I move beyond flat surfaces to inject physical depth, contextual complexity, and deliberate cultural commentary into the work.

When I began taking photography seriously in the late 1970s, the world was transitioning from large-format black-and-white to vivid, saturated color. Learning on film instilled a "one-shot" mentality. Because film was a precious commodity, I learned to plan every single frame with absolute intent, studying light, shadow, and composition before ever pressing the shutter. The dawn of the digital age completely transformed the photographic landscape. Where film represents intentionality and grain, digital offers versatility and clarity. It allowed for rapid, spontaneous capture. Yet, while technology has lowered the barrier to entry, a "smart" phone cannot replace the fundamental eye for mood, color theory, and light. Ultimately, these images are an invitation to contemplate the world as I have seen it across decades of travel. For me, photography and painting are inextricably linked -- each one informing the other in a lifelong pursuit of capturing light.

This space is a partial glimpse into my experimental and unconventional self -- a nod to the rebellious kid who refused to stand in an orderly line in grade school. Taken as a whole, a curator would be hard-pressed to find a cohesive genre here. Instead, some of these individual pieces represent the moments in my life where I chose the path least traveled. I have no idea how the traditional art world might receive them, but I do know they are the pieces I had the absolute most fun creating.
